Unique design table made from a rootstock

We love challenges, we love uniqueness, and we love wood in all its forms. That's why we thought, why not transform a tree root into a table!

Why a Root Table?

Because the root stump is the source of the tree and its unique wood, and this holds special significance for us.

Where did this Root come from?

This root is from a beech tree stump that has grown for the past 50 years near Wals (Salzburg, Austria). The unique shape of the root is due to the fact that the tree grew on a stone slab, which prevented the tree from finding stable and firm support in the soil.

At around 50 years old, this beech tree could no longer withstand a storm and was toppled. The tree owner, a farmer from Wals, saw the root and contacted us to ask if we had any ideas. After some thought, we found the perfect use for it – we created a root table of the highest class!

Drying a rootstock for processing

How was the Root Table made?

It was quite a craftsmanship challenge because the heavy root was heavily contaminated, and we had to clean it first before the drying process could begin.

Since this unique designer table was a complete prototype for us, we had no experience with crafting such tables and how much epoxy resin would be needed. As a result, the entire creation of this massive table took about 3 months.

Which Materials were used?

Metal as the base plate and epoxy resin to stabilize the root arms into a tabletop.
