Sustainability in harmony with nature and society

We and our products stand for ecological and social sustainability, as we align our activities and production to minimize negative impacts on the environment and society while promoting positive effects.

Sustainability is embedded in every step of production because we let nature and the soul of the trees live on.

We create wood & design perfection through care & craftsmanship

What we do is nothing less than preserving nature – in its most primal form – as well as possible. We do not design our wood, because every trunk is naturally destined to become a particular object. That’s why we treat the trees that come to us with care in our production. Only with care, craftsmanship, and material knowledge can perfection be guaranteed in every Stammdesign piece of furniture.

We see the uniqueness in every tree and let it live on

What makes all Stammdesign objects special is the selection of the wood. Since we create unique pieces, this starts in the forest. The local trees we work with in our workshop are usually at the end of their life cycle. They have been victims of storms, had to be removed for safety reasons, or have died inside. In traditional woodworking, such trunks are only used for one purpose: firewood. For us, this is the challenge – we see the uniqueness in every tree and let it, in another form, live on for a long time.

The wood we use to create a tree stump table, wood sculptures, a longboard, or wooden elements stands out because of its twisted shape, unique grain pattern, and natural growth characteristics. These include knots, inclusions, branches, fungal infestations, reaction wood, forks, discolorations, and much more. All of these are what others might call "wood defects". For us, however, these have incredible value – this is nature. Every tree we use has lived its unique life – so what could be more natural than showing this? Every feature tells a chapter of its individual life story. Where did it stand? What storms did it endure? How much light did it receive? All of this is preserved in the memory of the wood, and we let it shine through. For us, this is the beauty of nature, for us, this is expressive. Unique. Wood.
