Epoxy Resin Tables from Austria

Epoxy resin tables are conquering the living and dining rooms of trendsetters. We took a closer look at what epoxy resin actually is and how unique pieces of furniture can be created with it.
What is Epoxy Resin?
Epoxy resin is a synthetic resin composed of two components: the resin itself and a hardener. When these two are mixed together, a chemical reaction occurs that causes the material to harden within a few hours, making it extremely stable and durable.
This makes epoxy resin a very versatile material that, when combined with wood, can be used to create extraordinary furniture pieces.
What are Epoxy Resin Tables?
The idea of combining wood with epoxy resin originates from America, where epoxy resin tables have been trending for some time. The English term "Epoxy River Tables" comes from the fact that the epoxy resin portion, which connects two wooden elements in the middle, often resembles a river.
Our Stammdesign Epoxy Resin Tables
For us, the priority is to let the soul of the trees live on – as naturally as possible. That’s why we only use epoxy resin to stabilize the wooden slabs and ensure a smooth, closed surface – allowing the wood to remain the star of the piece.
As you may know, our Stammdesign trees are mostly untreated, featuring unique grain patterns and often combined with natural bark edges. By integrating epoxy resin as a stabilizer, we create a truly unique contrast.
By the way, the epoxy resin we use is specifically designed for our Stammdesign tables, making it completely colorless and slightly opaque.

The Manufacturing Process of a Stammdesign Epoxy Resin Table
1. Sealing the Cracks
The processing of epoxy resin requires extreme precision and care. Therefore, the cracks in the wood are first sealed before being filled with resin.
2. Pouring Process
The resin is poured into the wood cracks in layers to minimize the formation of air bubbles.
3. Curing Process
The resin takes approximately one night to fully cure.
4. Finalization
After curing, the entire slab is planed using a thickness planer. Fine cracks and holes are filled with black wood filler, as the resin is too viscous for certain areas.
Next, the slab is carefully sanded by hand. Since epoxy resin has a higher density than wood, it requires meticulous craftsmanship to achieve a smooth and even surface.
The final step is waxing the tabletop. A special wood wax is applied to enhance the natural color of the wood (also known as "firing up"), giving the epoxy resin a slightly matte finish.
Price Information
The prices of Stammdesign tables vary greatly depending on the type of wood, size, and custom requests. A dining or office table measuring 2.5 – 3 meters in length costs between approximately €6,500 and €10,000 in its standard version.
