Stammdesign – The Sustainable Table Manufacturing Company

Sustainability is becoming more and more important in the furniture industry, and it plays a significant role here at Stammdesign – in the design process, sourcing resources, and in production. For this reason, we have taken a closer look at this topic and put together an overview of "Sustainable Furniture" and "Sustainable Table Manufacturing."

The topic of sustainability is all about resource conservation and how resources can be used most efficiently to ensure that future generations can live on this Earth just as we do. Sustainability affects many different areas – from ecology to economics to social aspects.

When it comes to furniture production, "sustainability" means:

• Using renewable materials

• Choosing regional woods

• Creating furniture that guarantees a long lifespan

• Focusing on sustainable production

At Stammdesign, we primarily use trees for production in our table workshop that have reached the "end of their life." In other words, trees that have been damaged by storms, must be removed for safety reasons, or have already died inside. Normally, these trees could only be used for firewood, but we have made it our goal to give these trees (with all their stories) a new life.

We place great importance on sourcing regional resources, which is why most of the trees come directly from the "Stammdesign region" – namely, Salzburg or Upper Austria. This is in line with our approach to "sustainable furniture production."

Our Stammdesign natural furniture pieces are designed to last a long time. Through solid craftsmanship and simple construction, we ensure that our products are incredibly robust and have "heirloom quality."

The surfaces of our furniture can be refreshed as often as needed, the tree tables can be adapted to new room situations, and the high-quality construction ensures that our Stammdesign creations remain stable even after the 10th move/disassembly/reassembly.

We take care not only with sustainable raw materials and durable products but also with how they are made. Therefore, sustainability at Stammdesign does not simply end with creating furniture from recycled wood. We also ensure that the production process itself in our workshop in Perwang is as sustainable as possible. For example, we heat our workshop in the cold months using the wood scraps from production and briquettes made from the wood chips. We generate electricity with our in-house photovoltaic system, which covers 50-60% of the annual energy needs for our production.
