Why are Epoxy River Tables so popular?
Epoxy river tables are extremely robust, resistant to heat and moisture as well as chemicals. They not only look incredible, they are also very durable. The combination of the epoxy with real wood also creates a very cozy and unique atmosphere. No wonder these tables are so popular right now.
What exactly is Epoxy Resin?
Epoxy resin is a two-component synthetic resin consisting of resin and hardener. When these are mixed, the resin cures and becomes extremely stable and resistant. It is therefore ideal for stabilizing wood and achieving an even and smooth surface.
Epoxy River tables - A trend from America
In America, epoxy river tables have been a trend for a quite some time. Liquid epoxy resin is poured into cracks and splits in the wood. When it hardens, a kind of "river" is created in the wood, which creates an unique effect. This trend is now also conquering Europe.

An Overview of the Manufacturing Process
1. Taping the cracks
Working with epoxy resin requires an extremely precise and careful approach, so the cracks in the wood are first taped off before being filled with epoxy resin.
2. Pouring process
The resin is then poured layer by layer into the wood cracks to generate as few bubbles as possible.
3. Curing process
The resin takes about one night to cure.
4. Final Steps
After the epoxy is fully cured, the entire slab is planed. Fine cracks and holes are filled with a filler as the resin is too viscous for some areas. The slab gets sanded afterwards with great attention to detail.
Building an epoxy resin table yourself or having it made?
Anyone who is handy and has a lot of patience can in theory build an epoxy resin table themselves. As the process without expertise and experience is relatively difficult, we recommend leaving this to the experts.
However, we have prepared an overview of things that should be considered when building your own epoxy table in case you still want to give it a try:
1. Choosing the right Epoxy Resin
Choosing the right epoxy resin is particularly crucial. Cheap no-name products tend to discolor or even break. In order to be break-proof, the resin must also be perfectly bonded to the wood. The moisture content plays a major role.
2. Pouring
When pouring, only a small amount of resin should be used at a time, as the chemical curing is equivalent to strong heat generation. Too much heat leads to bubble formation which should be avoided at any costs. The room temperature also negatively affects the curing process.
3. Grinding
After hardening, meticulous manual work is required when grinding. This is the only way to create a smooth, closed surface without transitions between wood and epoxy resin. All this requires years of experience.
